EMMANUEL ALFONSO
Executive Producer, 'Ignatius of Loyola
'There is a need for this new material on St. Ignatius of Loyola, especially because the young people now are very visual.'

The film focuses on the conversion of Ignatius, a wealthy Spaniard. He was living a life of debauchery and, after years of searching, finds God and subsequently the Company of Jesus.

PAOLO DY
Director, 'Ignatius of Loyola
'Ignatius has always been a little bit of a cipher for most people. You kind of always see Ignatius only on a wall, in a painting, or in the statue over there holding up the sword. You know about the key points in his life, but beyond that, we don't really know much about his person. It was very interesting to try to go into the history of it. So we decided later on to focus on his conversion. We wanted to portray a very human Ignatius of Loyola because that was who he was.'

This is a contemporary film. Traditionally, films show a 'crescendo' of tension and emotion as they advance. However, in 'Ignatius of Loyola we are shown the opposite. There is a progressive sense of peace and tranquility that is linked to the search for the divine by the main character.

JS/DN
AA
VM
-PR
Up:JRB

June 17, 2017. "Ignatius of Loyola: Soldier, Sinner, and Saint has been released in Spain on June 16.

[187
