The pope has appointed M\u00ed\u00bcller's deputy, jesuit archbishop Luis Francisco Ladaria Ferrer, as his successor.<\/p>\n<p>After announcing the decision, Pope Francis thanked Cardinal M\u00ed\u00bcller for his term. However, the Holy See hasn\u00e2??t said if Cardinal M\u00ed\u00bcller will hold any subsequent official position within the Vatican.<\/p>\n<p>Until yesterday, Luis Ladaria, 73, was the second-in-command of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Previously, he was vice president of the Pontifical Gregorian University.<\/p>\n<p>Benedict XVI named Gerhard M\u00ed\u00bcller as prefect of this Vatican department in July 2012.
