During it, he expressed his appreciation for the Pope's position as a \u201cCatholic leader on the need for a cease-fire in Gaza.\u201d<br><br>Dialogue with Iran on this issue has not just emerged in the wake of the outbreak of conflict between Israel and the Hamas on October 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Already in 2021, when the country's foreign minister visited the Vatican, the dialogue with the Pope revolved around Israeli-Palestinian relations.<br><br>Iran and the Vatican have maintained diplomatic relations since the time of Pope Pius XII.
