On a busy Wednesday morning, Pope Francis met with Davi Kopenawa, the shaman and representative of the Yanomami indigenous people of Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kopenawa asked for the Pope to support the Brazilian president's efforts to defend the 28,000 Yanomami people living in the region. He states the Pope says he'll speak to the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Care for the indigenous people and protection of the land in the Amazonian region is close to Pope Francis' heart\u2014to the point that he even dedicated a synod to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of this convocation is to identify new paths for the evangelization of God\u2019s people in that region, especially the indigenous people who are often forgotten and without the prospect of a serene future. It is also because of the crisis of the Amazonian rainforest, a \u2018lung\u2019 of primary importance for our planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Pope continued his tight schedule with a meeting with Joseph Stiglitz. His theory on information asymmetry or one group having information another needs won him the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2001.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
