The tunnel under Piazza Pia and the upgrading of the Gregorio VII tunnel. There are also significant works from the point of view of reception.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These images show the area around the Vatican in August 2023. Bulldozers and streets blocked off are a common sight throughout the city and they will affect tourists who visit the Eternal City in the months leading up to the Jubilee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rome's city council maintains that they are breaking records in terms of time and that everything will be ready by 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>AUGUST 2023<br>ROBERTO GUALTIERI<br>Governor of Rome, Italy<\/strong><br><em>Typically, in this city but also all over Italy, we talk about taking years to finish work. Instead, with these projects we have managed in a few months to open the construction site and now have a timetable that allows us to plan for the timely completion\u2014before the Jubilee.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Rome has several challenges to face before 2025. First, it will have to complete the planned works and create infrastructure to accommodate pilgrims traveling to the Italian capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the city will have to address the current situation of the tourism sector, where many downtown apartments are being converted into short-stay apartments. Many of them without being legally regulated-something that is likely to affect hotels and the Roman residents themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rome must also take into account the security of the city, above all, at strategic points, such as train stations, subways and airports.
