This is the latest measure of the Ortega regime, where priests are being prohibited from visiting public hospitals to administer the sacrament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nicaraguan lawyer in exile, Martha Patricia, has been speaking out against government measures like these on her social media. For years she\u2019s been documenting the persecution of Catholics through her contacts in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She recently told local media La Prensa that the clergy are \u201cunder surveillance\u201d and that the police are \u201cbesieging\u201d them. One priest had to flee the country after receiving death threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>255 persecuted Nicaraguan Catholics now live in exile. They include bishops, seminarians and women religious. Some have found refuge in Rome through the mediation of the Holy See.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the latest report by the NGO \u201cNicaragua Never Again\u201d, the Ortega regime has shut down over 1,200 religious entities.
