The Vatican stated it was a hematoma. It was caused by a blow the pope incurred in the morning when he fell on his nightstand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the swelling did not prevent him from continuing his schedule, with 9 meetings on Friday, 7 on Saturday, and 3 on Sunday. Four of the events were religious or public ceremonies in front of thousands of people.
