He referred to the anniversary of the First World War and described it as a \u2018useless slaughter\u2019.<br><br><strong>POPE LEO XIV<br><\/strong><em>Yesterday we commemorated the end of the \u2018useless slaughter\u2019 of the First World War, after which, for many peoples \u2014 including yours \u2014 the dawn of independence arrived.
