{"id":85650,"date":"2026-01-08T13:33:03","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T12:33:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/?p=85650"},"modified":"2026-01-08T15:36:56","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T14:36:56","slug":"pope-leo-the-college-of-cardinals-is-not-a-team-of-experts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/2026\/01\/08\/pope-leo-the-college-of-cardinals-is-not-a-team-of-experts\/","title":{"rendered":"Pope Leo: the College of Cardinals is not \u201ca team of experts\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Pope Leo XIV has met with the cardinals for the extraordinary Consistory to decide future matters of the Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 7:30 in the morning, the Pope presided over the Holy Mass for the future of the Church on the second and final day of the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>POPE LEO XIV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The word Consistory, Consistorium, \u201cassembly,\u201d can be read in the light of the root of the verb consistere, that is, \u201cto stop\u201d or \u201cto stand still.\u201d Indeed, all of us have \u201cstopped.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>In fact, we are not here to promote \u201cagendas\u201d\u2014personal or group\u2014but to entrust our projects and inspirations to the scrutiny of a discernment that surpasses us, as heaven rises above the earth, and that can come only from the Lord.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the second time the Pope has met face to face with all the cardinals since he was elected as the successor of St. Peter. During his time with them, he reminded them of their primary mission as the College of Cardinals<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>POPE LEO XIV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Our College, although rich in many abilities and remarkable gifts, is not called, first and foremost, to be a team of experts, but a community of faith, in which the gifts that each one brings\u2014offered to the Lord and returned by Him according to His Providence\u2014produce the greatest fruit.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before concluding, Pope Leo also reminded the cardinals of the need for mutual support within the college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>POPE LEO XIV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>In fact, we will not always be able to find immediate solutions to the problems we must face. However, always, in every place and circumstance, we will be able to help one another\u2014and in particular to help the Pope\u2014to find the \u201cfive loaves and the two fish\u201d that Providence never fails to provide when its children ask for help.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pope concluded his homily by entrusting the work of all those present to God with words from St. Augustine: \u201cGive what you command, and command what you will.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BAM<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pope Leo XIV has met with the cardinals for the extraordinary Consistory to decide future matters of the Church.
