The first edition takes place in Assisi in 1986, with leaders from different religions united in reconciliation and common purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The peace vigils are solemn acts of prayer and reflection convened by the popes. Their aim is usually reconciliation, unity, or praying for the end of conflicts. They often include reflections by the pontiff, biblical readings, and moments of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These occasions bring together all kinds of people, including non-Christians. For example, in 2013, during conflict in Syria, Pope Francis convened a vigil for peace at the Vatican.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muslims and Hindus were present at this vigil, showing that the desire for peace can become a true bridge between faiths and cultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Being in Rome, and as a Muslim from the West, it is a religious duty to try to build bridges, to participate in all these events that can show the true reality of spirituality and the deeper meaning of life.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nine years later, in 2022, during the war in Ukraine, Pope Francis once again made an urgent call for prayer and fasting, interceding for an end to the conflict and reconciliation among peoples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, another vigil for peace is taking center stage at the Vatican.
