The fraternity will carry out episcopal ordinations on July 1 in Switzerland. If they proceed without the necessary papal mandate, which the pope has not granted, they will incur schism and excommunication. Pope Leo commented:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>We have considered making another appeal, to say do not do this, let us try to live in communion within the Church. But it is their choice. One must understand what this means for them and for the Church. Certainly, division among Christians is always a painful matter. But they refuse to accept certain fundamental elements of the Church, starting with several points of the Second Vatican Council. If they make that choice, I am sorry, but we must move forward.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pope also spoke about his visit to Spain, where he expressed his happiness at having shared in the joy of the faith with those in Madrid, Barcelona, and the Canary Islands.
