{"id":91621,"date":"2026-06-21T06:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-21T04:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/?p=91621"},"modified":"2026-06-21T06:31:24","modified_gmt":"2026-06-21T04:31:24","slug":"10th-world-day-of-the-poor-2026-leo-xiv-blames-corruption-social-media-and-discrimination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/2026\/06\/21\/10th-world-day-of-the-poor-2026-leo-xiv-blames-corruption-social-media-and-discrimination\/","title":{"rendered":"10th World Day of the Poor 2026: Leo XIV blames corruption, social media and discrimination"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Daniel del Castillo Gonz\u00e1lez<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahead of the 10th World Day of the Poor, which will take place on the 15<sup>th<\/sup> of November 2026, Pope Leo XIV is urging people to listen to those whose voices often go unheard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He released the message on the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua: the protector of the poor and their patron saint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pope Francis originally launched the World Day of the Poor in 2016 to draw attention to the realities of poverty and exclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the theme, \u201cThe Lord Is the Refuge of the Poor,\u201d Leo speaks out against social injustice and the mindset that leads people to place themselves above others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GFX<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Sadly, we see that even today there is widespread social injustice arising from arrogant corruption, which is as deplorable as it is discriminatory.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his first encyclical, <em>Magnifica Humanitas<\/em>, Pope Leo also reflects on what he calls the virtue of the poor. He argues that the concentration of technological power in the hands of a few draws attention away from society\u2019s most vulnerable and marginalized people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pope Leo pointed out that the digital world often works against those living in poverty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GFX<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The digital world exacerbates prejudice against them and reinforces the veil of indifference surrounding their plight.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leo XIV also described today\u2019s poor as the forgotten and the marginalized, deprived not only of bread, but also of a voice and a face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Criticizing both social and digital structures, Pope Leo XIV is using the 10th World Day of the Poor to speak out against the forces that deepen poverty.
