The West has lost its Christian understanding of the human person, and is exporting a cultural understanding alien to many African countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CARDINAL ROBERT SARAH<\/strong><br>Emeritus Prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>People talk of sexual and reproductive health. And, in many cases, of access to abortion. They also talk about gender equality. Sometimes what they mean is the deconstruction of sexual differences between man and woman. They speak of human rights for Africans, but what they mean is legislation that is foreign to our history, faith and culture.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cardinal Sarah criticized the Samoa Agreement, signed by the European Union, African countries, the Caribbean and the Pacific in order to regulate political and economic cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was at this point that he used a favorite phrase of Pope Francis: \u201cideological colonization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CARDINAL ROBERT SARAH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>A treaty. A resolution, a plan of action. They use vague and ambiguous language in such a way that they are not instruments of cooperation. Rather, they are instruments of perversion, of silent power. Of cultural and economic neocolonialism. Whoever controls the meaning of words, controls negotiations.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Cardinal also argued that gender ideology is a prime example of this break with the Christian understanding of humanity and that nothing in this regard has changed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CARDINAL ROBERT SARAH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emeritus Prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Gender ideology and Islamic fundamentalism represent, each in its own way, two apocalyptic beasts. They threaten to destroy not only the family, but also man himself, created in the image of God. Some considered the image excessive, but I continue to believe that it captures the truth.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Cardinal also emphasized Africa's historic role in the development of Christianity, noting that people like St. Augustine are part of the very roots of European civilization.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>He rejected the idea that Africa is simply the recipient of the Christian tradition.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CARDINAL ROBERT SARAH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Emeritus Prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship<br><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Africa is not a mission field in need of assistance, but a living source of faith and devotion, of large and joyful families.
