In recent days, one of the largest migration crises has unfolded. Thousands of people have crossed the border from Morocco, overwhelming the city's capacity to accomodate them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
More than 60,000 people have crossed the border illegally, and dozens have lost their lives, reigniting the debate over how the European Union manages its borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
POPE LEO XIV The invocation of Our Lady of Africa is no coincidence either. She has been the patroness of Ceuta for centuries, and devotion to her is deeply rooted; the Pope wished to place the history of a city marked by its status as a border town under her protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Before greeting the faithful, Pope Leo XIV also recalled the Pardon of Assisi, one of the Church's oldest Franciscan traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n POPE LEO XIV These days mark the celebration of the \u201cPardon of Assisi.\u201d St. Francis obtained this indulgence from Pope Honorius III in 1216, inspired, while praying at the Porziuncola, by a vision of Jesus and Mary, surrounded by angels. Let us give thanks to the Lord for this great gift and treasure it, especially on the eighth centenary of the \u201cTransition\u201d of the Poverello of Assisi, who died precisely at the Porziuncola on October 3, 1226.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Once again, Pope Leo XIV used his Sunday address to appeal for peace.
