The state says it aims to have the strongest abortion protections in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, doctors had a narrow set of exceptions for performing abortions. The new law removes those restrictions, while also reducing reporting requirements and facility standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since taking office in January 2023, Healey has repeatedly supported abortion legislation and related initiatives. The bill's passage was also rushed, leaving little time for opponents to respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Archdiocese of Boston spoke to Rome Reports, saying that the pleas of four bishops were ignored by both chambers of the state legislature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>This is a discouraging moment in the effort to protect the life of the unborn, we encourage all people of goodwill to work towards speaking out on the beauty and miracle of life...We will continue to work to uphold Catholic teaching prohibiting the direct attack on innocent human life from conception to the natural death.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Archdiocese also recalled Pope Leo XIV\u2019s call to learn to love life as Jesus does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Boston and the surrounding area, the Catholic Church offers several confidential pregnancy resources providing support, healing, and retreats for men and women.
