Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey recently signed a bill expanding access to abortion up until birth for 'complex medical circumstances.' The state says it aims to have the strongest abortion protections in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Previously, doctors had a narrow set of exceptions for performing abortions. The new law removes those restrictions, while also reducing reporting requirements and facility standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since taking office in January 2023, Healey has repeatedly supported abortion legislation and related initiatives. The bill's passage was also rushed, leaving little time for opponents to respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Archdiocese of Boston spoke to Rome Reports, saying that the pleas of four bishops were ignored by both chambers of the state legislature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
