At some moment in England there was, after the Reformation, basically the changing of the ordination into a promotion to the office and the rejection of the sacramental order. And so there is no continuity, and so we do not recognize the validity of these so-called ordenations.
Whereas how they dress up or what vestments they wear, we don't discuss that, but that is not a full apostolic succession.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"In order that all doubt may be removed [...] I declare that the Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women and that this judgment is to be definitively held by all the Church's faithful.\"<\/em>
It was so forceful that it came to be interpreted as an ex cathedra declaration, <\/em>that is, as a dogma of faith. But that's not the case, as confirmed by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Nevertheless, what Pope John Paul II said has been reiterated by every pope up to Pope Leo XIV, without exception.

St. John Paul II, in the light of debates and questions, made a very strong authoritarian statement on this issue.<\/em>
I think John Paul II went as far as possible to reiterate the Church's conviction that we follow what Christ has done. And Christ, who was free in his choices and who was doing things that were contrary to custom, nevertheless he had only the Apostles at the Last Supper.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/em>This doesn't mean that women are relegated to the background. What the Church points out is, that ordination does not determine authority and that, if so, this creates a clericalist attitude.

All participate in the sanctification of the Church and contribute to the sanctification of others, and all in some way govern that part of the Church which is under their care. So this is the life of the entire Church, whereas the ministerial priesthood, following the choice of Jesus, is reserved to the ordained clergy: the bishops and the priests.<\/em>
This is what is known as the common priesthood. Just by being baptized, both man and woman participate in the priesthood of Christ during Mass.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
