Now, following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Pope Francis, Leo XIV met with Italian athletes from Special Olympics, which promotes sports for people with intellectual disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
LEO XIV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Taking part in sports means making a real commitment and working hard, then sharing the fruits of that perseverance with loyalty, trust, openness, team spirit and courage. You do all of this, and you show its beauty in a truly special way, both to those who take part in and attend competitions and to those who get to know you and meet you.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The pope thanked them for being there and for the joy they bring, while encouraging them to continue their work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n LEO XIV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Our world needs people like you, who remind everyone of the true values of life; men and women who show by their example that the path of sharing and love is the only one that truly leads to happiness and peace.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Special Olympics provides sports training and competition for people with intellectual disabilities in more than 190 countries. It was founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the sister of U.S. President John F.
