Five women who accuse former priest Marko Rupnik of abuse are denouncing what they describe as a lack of transparency surrounding the judicial process opened by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This loud and prolonged silence is experienced by us, the victims, as additional and ongoing violence. It adds, like a heavy burden, to the violence we have already suffered: sexual, physical, psychological and spiritual violence; a prolonged violence against the soul, now compounded by this new and painful violence of silence and abandonment by the judicial system.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n In an open letter to Pope Leo XIV, the women say they have received no information about the case beyond what has been reported in the media. They also claim there has been a lack of answers and secrecy surrounding the proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We have been accused, or rather, defamed, as prostitutes and liars, and accused of being paid to accuse Father Rupnik and of enriching ourselves from this terrible matter. Abused and vilified, we continue to suffer violence through the deathly silence and indifference of those who have been called to make decisions about our lives.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The women also warn that their experience could discourage other victims from coming forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The message that has come from our reports is this: there is no point in reporting abuse to Church authorities, because in the end nothing happens, no one will be held accountable, and victims will never receive justice.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n They are asking Pope Leo XIV to intervene and ensure what they describe as a fair trial<\/strong>, with both sides given the opportunity to present their cases, and with clear, impartial and independent judges.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Carmen \u00c1lvarez Cuadrado Five women who accuse former priest Marko Rupnik of abuse are denouncing what they describe as a lack of transparency surrounding the judicial process opened by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.
