Pope on Vatileaks 2: Leaks don't help, but Vatican reforms are moving forward

2015-11-09

For the very first time, Pope Francis publicly addressed the recent leak of confidential Vatican documents on financial matters of the Holy See. He did so, before thousands of people in St. Peter's Square, during his Sunday Angelus prayer.

POPE FRANCIS
"First off, I would to say that stealing documents is a crime. It's a deplorable act that doesn't help.”

The content of the leaked documents, the Pope said, were not a surprise to him or his advisers, since it was the Pope himself, who asked for the information, precisely to asses it and make changes.

Improvements, he said, are underway, and despite the breach of confidence, he added, won't deter those reforms from moving forward.

POPE FRANCIS
"Therefore I wish to reassure you that this sad event certainly does not deter me from the reforms that we are carrying out, together with my advisers and with the support of all of you and the Church. Because the Church renews Herself with prayer and the daily holiness of each baptized person.”

As usual, the Pope called on all Christians to pray for him and for the Church, asking them to not be discouraged from these type of unnecessary distractions.
