Pope meets with president of European Parliament, ahead of his visit to Strasburg

2014-10-30

The President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, met with Pope Francis in a private gathering, just weeks before his coming visit to Strasbourg.

The Pope is scheduled to speak before members of Europe's Parliament on November 25th. During this Vatican meeting, they finalized the last details.

Massive immigration in the Mediterranean and high rates of youth unemployment are among the issues the Pope is expected to address.

President Schulz introduced members of his delegation to Pope Francis.

As a gift, he gave each one of them a rosary.

John Paul II was the last Pontiff to speak before the European Parliament back in1988. The Pope's visit will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall
