The Pope Emeritus was also present. Pope Francis opened the Holy Door in St. Peter's Basilica and collected himself for a few moments. Afterward, the ceremony concluded inside the basilica with cardinals, bishops, and other concelebrants.

He said a few moments before that "to pass through the Holy Door means to rediscover the infinite mercy of the Father who welcomes everyone and goes out personally to encounter each of them.”
