Every Wednesday, during the general audience, pilgrims invent new strategies to greet the Pope. Just look at what these Colombian's did.
During catechesis, the Pope spoke of Christmas, and said that to understand the meaning of this time of year we can gaze children.
"Although we know little about Jesus' childhood, we can learn a lot from him by observing children”.
He recalled that all the children look into our eyes, they need to feel protected and cared for in our arms.
"Jesus also wants to be embraced by us, that we show Him our love and interest. So that we can abandon our claims of autonomy and welcome a true form of freedom, which is to recognize and serve those in front of us.”
The Pope concluded with some advice for Christian's, who should not see the Nativity crib as a decorative object.
"It would be nice that when we get home we approach the Nativity scene and kiss the baby Jesus, and say: Jesus, I want to be humble like you. Humble as God. And ask for that grace”.
Pope Francis prayed for the victims of a strong tornado in the US, the floods in Britain and flooding in Paraguay, where more than 140,000 people have been evacuated.
It was the last general audience of the year. The Pope took the opportunity to give gratitude for all of the Christmas cards he has received and to send a special blessing to those who are lonely.
