As cameras clicked away, Pope Francis welcomed the president of the Tunisian Republic, Mohamed Moncef Marzouki, to the Vatican's Apostolic Palace.
With the help of an interpreter, they spoke in French. During their brief meeting they talked about inter-religious dialogue, human rights and religious freedom. They also discussed the role the Church plays in the fields of health and education in the country.
As a gift, the president gave the Pope a silver colored dove that symbolizes peace. In turn, the Pope gave him an engraved medallion.
Even though the Pope needed some help at first with a translator, by the end of the meeting, he seemed pretty comfortable speaking on his own.
As he usually does with his guests, the Pope asked him to pray for him.
