Pope expresses sorrow over execution of 30 Christians by the Islamic State

2015-04-21

The Pope has sent his condolences to the Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Abuna Matthias, over the murder of 30 Ethiopian Christians by Islamic State terrorists.

On Sunday, the terrorist organization released a video depicting the execution of 30 men. Half were beheaded and half were shot.

In his message, Pope Francis expresses sorrow and dismay at the latest murder of Christians.

The Pope ensured his "closeness in prayer at the continuing martyrdom being so cruelly inflicted on Christians in Africa, the Middle East and some parts of Asia.

The message also says that there is no difference between Catholic, Orthodox or Protestant victims because their "blood is one and the same in their confession of Christ.”

Additionally, he said that people who are responsible for the safety of these areas must hear their pleas for help.
