Cardinal Giovanni Canestri passes away at 96

Italian Cardinal Giovanni Canestri has died at the age of 96. The Archbishop Emeritus of Genoa, passed away on Wednesday April 29th. ; He took part in the Second Vatican Council, making contributions on discussions about ecumenism and religious liberty. ; He was appointed as the Archbishop of Cagliari in 1984. Four years later, he was named a Cardinal by John Paul II. ; From 1987 until 1995, when he retired, he served as the Archbishop of Genoa. ; On Thursday, at noon all the parish bells of his Archdiocese will ring to honor his life and service.
