LIVE: Pope visits President of Italy

Pope Francis visits president Sergio Mattarella for the first time. Although they have met on several occasions, it is the first meeting at the Italian Head of State's residence. ; Pope Francis was there in November 2013 to return the visit of the previous president, Giorgio Napolitano. The palace was considered a papal residence until the demise of the Papal States in 1870. Since then, it has been inhabited by the kings of Italy, and then followed by the presidents of the Republic. ;
