Pope Leo XIV sent a video message regarding the important international university gathering taking place in Rio de Janeiro from May 21 to 24.
Commemorating the tenth anniversary of Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato si’, on integral ecology, he delivered the following message:

“I know you are going to carry out a synodal work of discernment in preparation for COP30. You will reflect together on a possible connection between public debt and ecological debt—an idea that Pope Francis suggested in his message for the World Day of Peace. And in this Jubilee Year, a year of hope, this message is especially important.”
These words were addressed to the rectors of 200 universities from the Americas and the Iberian Peninsula, who are gathered at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro.
