Two young Israeli diplomatic staffers were killed in Washington DC on the 21st of May.
The victims were Yaron Lischinsky, 30 and Sarah Milgrim, 26. Both worked for the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C. and were leaving an event hosted by the American Jewish Committee when the attack took place.
One of the first leaders to speak out was the president of the United States. Trump said on his social media that "hatred and radicalism have no place in the USA.
The day after the attack, the Archbishop of Washington, Cardinal Robert McElroy, expressed his shock at the news.
"The Catholic community of Washington and Maryland stands together in prayer, shock and solidarity with the families of Yaron and Sarah, with the people of Israel and with the entire Jewish community that has been attacked in this act of anti-Semitic hatred and murder."
The Vatican's top diplomat, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, also released a statement emphasizing that anti-Semitic attacks must be stopped.
"We must remain vigilant and ensure that the cancer of antisemitism, never fully defeated, does not rear its head again."
The person accused of these attacks was immediately taken into custody and has since been charged with first degree murder.
