There were several major highlights over the weekend. This was the first one:
His greeting to the cyclists finishing the Giro d’Italia in Rome. All of them entered Vatican territory to receive the Pope’s greeting, which he delivered in both Italian and English.
POPE LEO XIV
Hello everyone, welcome to the Vatican. It’s a pleasure to greet you on this final stage of the Giro d’Italia. I hope it’s truly a beautiful day for all of you. Know that you are role models for young people all over the world.
Congratulations to all of you and may you know that you are always welcome here in the Vatican and you are always welcome by the Church which represents God's love for all people. And the blessing of the mighty God in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit come up on all of you and remain in you forever. Congratulations, tanti auguri a tutti.
Afterward, the entire group left the area to continue on. However, one of the cyclists broke protocol to greet Pope Leo. It was Colombian rider Nairo Quintana, from the Movistar Team, who finished 25th in the general classification.
Another major event of the weekend was the Jubilee of Families, Children, and Grandparents. Later, Pope Leo traveled to the Augustinian curia for a very special occasion: celebrating the 70th birthday of the Prior General, Fr. Alejandro Moral.
