Ten million pilgrims have arrived in Rome for the Jubilee, according to figures confirmed to this outlet by the Dicastery for Evangelization.

According to the department in charge of the Holy Year, the figure covers the period from December 24th, when the Holy Door at St. Peter’s was opened, until May 30th, marking nearly six months since the start of the Jubilee.

So far, this represents just over one-third of the expected total of 32 million pilgrims for all of 2025.

However, many of the Jubilee’s major events are still to come, like the canonization of Carlo Acutis and the much-anticipated Youth Jubilee, which could draw at least one million people to Rome.

It's also worth considering that January, February, and early March are the months with the fewest tourists in the Eternal City. Numbers begin to rise with Holy Week and the arrival of warmer weather.

In fact, despite the heat, the waves of pilgrims and tourists typically continue through the summer and last until nearly the end of the Christmas season.

Two main factors drive this trend: holiday travel and major Vatican events involving the Pope, which attract thousands to St. Peter’s Square every year.

In any case, even if the current number of pilgrims seems low, 2025 has been a strong year for Rome.

According to Civitatis, one of the most well-known Spanish-language tour booking platforms, reservations for activities in the capital have increased by 20% so far this year compared to 2024. And this isn’t just due to the Jubilee—it’s also thanks to the arrival of Pope Leo XIV.
