Coinciding with Pentecost, around 70,000 pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square. They came to Rome from more than 100 countries, all to participate in the Jubilee of the Movements, and the central event, the Mass, was presided over by the Pope himself.
In his homily, Pope Leo XIV pointed out that the Spirit also helps in personal relationships, in overcoming fears or severity. However, the new Pope also drew attention to one of today’s major problems.
POPE LEO XIV
But the Spirit also transforms those more hidden dangers that poison our relationships, such as misunderstandings, prejudices, and exploitation. I also think — with much pain — of the cases in which a relationship becomes toxic due to the will to dominate the other, an attitude that frequently leads to violence, as is sadly demonstrated by the numerous and recent cases of femicide.
In addition, Pope Leo spoke of the importance of charismatic movements engaging in dialogue and integrating their differences so that there may be no divisions.
POPE LEO XIV
Differences, when the Divine Breath unites our hearts and makes us see the face of a brother in the other, do not become a source of division and conflict, but rather a shared heritage from which we can all draw—and which sets us out on the journey, together, in fraternity.
Among those present at the Mass were representatives from the Neocatechumenal Way, Catholic Action, Communion and Liberation, and the Focolare Movement.
