Syria remains in shock after the suicide bombing took place on June 22, at an Orthodox church in Damascus, the country's capital.
The terrorist attack left dozens injured and around 25 dead, who have already been laid to rest following a funeral that saw massive support from the public.
There have been numerous political and religious reactions so far, beginning with condolences from Pope Leo XIV. The Pope expressed his sorrow over the incident in a telegram sent through Cardinal Parolin.
The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch also released a statement calling for accountability.
(The Patriarchate) strongly condemns this heinous act and firmly denounces this horrific crime. It urges the responsible authorities to fully assume responsibility for what has happened and what continues to happen in terms of the violation of the sanctity of churches, and to ensure the protection of all citizens.
Continuing with condolences from religious leaders, Cardinal Boutros, the Maronite Patriarch, also spoke out. He condemned all forms of violence as well as attacks on places of worship.
There have also been messages of support from international institutions such as the European Union, as well as from many countries including the United States, Spain, Italy, and Turkey.
The Syrian government has attributed the attack to the Islamic State. The terrorist carrying the explosives died in the attack, but the Interior Ministry announced that they had arrested both the mastermind and several members of a criminal cell affiliated with ISIS.
