This was the scene on Friday morning at the Vatican. St. Peter's Basilica was entirely dressed in white. White was the dominant color in the celebration of the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Priests, bishops, cardinals, and Pope Leo were all in attendence. Also present was a group of 32 deacons, who just minutes later would receive priestly ordination.

First, during the homily, Pope Leo gave them some guidance that he considers important for the ministry.

POPE LEO XIV
Love God and your brothers, be generous, fervent in the celebration of the sacraments, in prayer—especially in adoration—and in ministry; be close to your flock, give your time and energy to everyone, without holding back, without making distinctions, as the pierced side of the Crucified and the example of the saints teach us.

Pope Leo XIV also gave them a piece of advice: to follow the lives similar to great figures of priestly holiness, to take an interest in their stories, study their works, imitate their virtues, and invoke their intercession.

POPE LEO XIV
Our world often proposes questionable and hollow models of success and prestige. Do not be fooled by them. Instead, look to the solid example and fruits of apostolic work—often hidden and humble—of those who in their lives served the Lord and their brothers with faith and dedication, and honor their memory with your fidelity.

The new priests came from many countries around the world, including Vietnam, Mexico, Ukraine, Uganda, and Australia.
