Pope Leo does not have a Facebook account nor is he requesting donations. This is what the Vatican has come forward to clarify: a digital scam in which fake profiles are used to ask for money using the Pope’s name.

The fraud emerged especially around June 29, the feast of Saints Peter and Paul. That is the day the Church holds the well-known Peter’s Pence collection.

It is an annual initiative in which money is raised to support the Pope’s charitable works and the mission of the Holy See.

That’s why the Vatican had to clarify that the only official way to donate is through the official Peter’s Pence website.

As for Pope Leo's social media presence, his only official accounts are on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, where he has gained millions of followers over the past two months.
