After the Mass for the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Pope Leo appeared at the balcony of the Apostolic Palace for the Angelus prayer.
One of his first greetings was addressed to the people of Rome on the feast day of their patron saints, especially to those who serve in local parishes.
POPE LEO XIV
I extend my greetings to all of you, especially today to the faithful of Rome, on the feast of the Holy Patrons. I want to send a heartfelt message to the parish priests and all the clergy working in the parishes of Rome, with gratitude and encouragement for their service.
That day also marked the collection for Peter’s Pence, and Pope Leo thanked everyone for their donations to help continue the Church’s mission and its charitable projects around the world.
Before a square filled with pilgrims, the Pope expressed his condolences for what happened in Bangui, where a transformer exploded at a school, causing a stampede that left around 29 people dead.
POPE LEO XIV
I assure you of my prayers for the community of the 'Barthélémy Boganda' high school in Bangui, in the Central African Republic, which is mourning the tragic accident that caused many deaths and injuries among the students. May the Lord console the families and the entire community.
Also present in the square were Ukrainian pilgrims who had come to Rome for the Jubilee Year. They had met with the Pope the day before.
