This is Mount Zvir, in Slovakia. It is almost 2 miles from a small town with a Byzantine Catholic tradition. The Virgin Mary supposedly appeared here to three children between 1990 and 1995.
Today, it is a shrine visited by thousands of people, many of them giving testimonies of conversions.
The Holy See has studied the case, requested by the bishop in early 2025, and has already issued a verdict. The Doctrine of the Faith has granted the nulla osta.
This means that there are no doctrinal objections, that Marian devotion is recognized, and that public worship is approved.
However, the Vatican also warns of ambiguities and unclear aspects in this alleged phenomenon.
In a letter sent by Cardinal Fernández, the following is read:
This statement, while not implying recognition of the supernatural authenticity of the alleged apparitions, nevertheless allows for the approval of public worship and informs the faithful that, if they so wish, they may safely approach this spiritual proposal, in addition to the fact that the fundamental content of the alleged messages can be helpful in living the Gospel of Christ.
These responses to alleged apparitions by the Doctrine of the Faith are part of the late Pope Francis's reform of the regulations to prevent spiritual fraud.
