The square in Castel Gandolfo was this full.
It had been years since a pope was seen praying with parishioners of this small, but historic town. Pope Leo returned the affection shown to him.
POPE LEO XIV
Dear brothers and sisters, I am happy to be here among you, in Castel Gandolfo.
Just before praying the Angelus, the Pope reflected on the words of the Gospel, which were about the Kingdom of Heaven being closer than one might think. He reminded everyone that there is no need to resort to violence to enter heaven.
POPE LEO XIV
It is not a matter of conquering it by force, nor of begging for it like servants, nor of obtaining it through a contract. Eternal life, which only God can give, is passed on to man as an inheritance, like from father to child.
His final words were a call for peace in the world.
POPE LEO XIV
Brothers and sisters, let us not forget to pray for peace and for all those who, because of violence and war, find themselves in need.
Pope Leo then said goodbye to those present and offered a special greeting to groups of pilgrims from Poland, France, and various parts of Italy.
