Some of the elderly women, living in this residence called “Santa Marta,” couldn’t hold back their emotion upon seeing the Pope.

Pope Leo XIV greeted them individually, and one of them was even over 100 years old.

Good morning.
She’s 101.
101? Congratulations.
Thank you.
Thank you. Let’s pray together.

Then the Pope shared this reflection with them:
POPE LEO XIV
As you know, yesterday’s Gospel at Holy Mass spoke of Martha and Mary. Within each of us, there is a part that is Martha and a part that is Mary. One part of us pushes us to do many things, to be busy, to try to respond to many demands. But there must also be the part of Mary, who sat at the feet of Jesus to listen to his word. And perhaps you, I know many of you already do, can live this Mary-like dimension here at Casa Santa Marta: listening to Jesus’ word and praying. Many of you, as I greeted you one by one, told me: we pray for you and for your mission. And truly, I thank you for that. Prayer is very important. The power of prayer is much greater than we can imagine.

At the end, they prayed together, and shortly before 11:30 in the morning, the Pope was already back at Villa Barberini.
