When he was a cardinal, Robert Prevost was assigned the historic seat of the cathedral of Albano. However, he was unable to take possession of it in May, as he was elected Pope.
During the Mass he celebrated in that seat, Pope Leo XIV did not overlook that crucial detail.
POPE LEO XIV
As you know, I was supposed to come on May 12, but the Holy Spirit arranged things differently. But I’m truly happy, and with this fraternity, this Christian joy, I greet all of you present here.
The Pope celebrated Mass in the cathedral of Albano, to which the diocese of Castel Gandolfo belongs.
The image of the Virgin Mary that presided over the celebration was the Madonna della Rotonda, one of the most venerated Marian devotions in the region.
At the end of the mass, Pope Leo spent a lot of time greeting the sick.
And he didn’t avoid the press either.
The Pope essentially focused on the same message that he would deliver moments later during the Angelus.
In any case, that same day the Vatican confirmed that the Pope would not return to Rome that day, but would instead do so on Tuesday afternoon.
