Representatives of the Catholic Church and the Greek Orthodox Church in Jerusalem organized this joint appearance before the media.
Both visited Gaza after the only Catholic parish in the region was attacked. Their words, after visiting the area, were far from mild.
Cardinal Pizzaballa said that what is happening in this region is a “sea of human devastation.”
We saw it: men standing for hours under the sun, waiting just for a bit of food. It’s a humiliation that is hard to bear when seen with your own eyes. It is morally unacceptable and unjustifiable.
They pointed out that the purpose of the visit was to see firsthand how all the initiatives and communities where the Church is present are functioning and to express their solidarity.
