The Vice President of Italy's Council of Ministers, Antonio Tajani, met with Pope Leo XIV. The politician expressed to the Pope his country's commitment to peace and the defense of Christian minorities.
During the exchange of gifts, Tajani gave the Pope an object that holds great significance in Pope Leo's pontificate.
This is a several-year-old edition of Rerum Novarum, so it was made on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.
Its author is Pope Leo XIII, the pope whose name the current pontiff honors. This encyclical serves as a basis for where Pope Leo XIV wants to direct his pontificate.
Tajani told the Pope that his family is deeply devoted to Saint Ambrose the Martyr, a Christian soldier killed during the Diocletian Persecution. Therefore, he brought him this gift.
After the meeting, Tajani spoke to the press. He noted that he spoke about the conflicts with the Pope, especially in Ukraine, the Middle East, and Sudan.
