The heat in Rome is nothing new, but these days the thermometer can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius (104°F), and the humidity makes the sensation even more intense. However, it remains true that not even the stifling heat can stop the tourists.
Look at them. They’re waiting in line to enter the Vatican Museums, a very busy place even if you have to wait… Some are lucky and move quickly; others, not so much…
We arrived at 9 in the morning, and until now at half past eleven, about two hours, two and a half hours roughly—horrible, you get thirsty and we keep going to the fountain nearby to get water.
The Vatican Museums are a must-see stop for many visiting the Eternal City.
The Vatican museum is a world-wide famous spot, site, and is a must-go. It´s a must-go place, it´s a gem of Italy here.
Just 500 meters away is St. Peter’s Square, another key point in the Vatican. The heat of these weeks has been so intense that even the papal audiences have been moved to the Paul VI Hall to avoid direct sunlight.
In fact, on one occasion, the Pope even applauded all those who, despite the heat, continued their pilgrimage to Rome.
POPE LEO XIV
I warmly greet all of you, faithful of Rome, pilgrims from Italy and various countries. With the great heat of this period, your journey through the Holy Doors is even braver and more admirable.
Despite the high temperatures, Rome continues to receive waves of visitors. With the Jubilee year, the tourist flow has doubled. Just during the Youth Jubilee, around one million pilgrims arrived, and in 2024, it was estimated that, over the course of the year, the city would receive between 30 and 35 million visitors.
