The canonization of Pier Giorgio Frassati is one of the most anticipated events, but… who was this young man?
Pier Giorgio was born in Turin to a wealthy family in 1901. His family belonged to the upper middle class, but he dedicated much of his life to helping the sick and needy in poor neighborhoods.
He was a young athlete. He loved the mountains, where he loved to go to pray.
However, at the age of 24, he died of a serious infectious disease, probably contracted while visiting the sick.
His devotion has spread throughout the world. This is what they said in 2021 from the United States.

He's inspired many vocations over here. He's got schools named for him over here. And in a way, even though he hasn't been formally canonized by the Church, it's almost like he's been canonized by the people. And you can see that by the incredible devotion, not only in the United States, but almost on every continent.
Since then, Frassati has been a leading figure for youth. In 1990, he was beatified by Pope Saint John Paul II.
Today, the young Italian is the patron saint of youth, students, and mountaineers.
