It was a cordial meeting, but one marked by discreet body language, given the current international situation.
According to the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV called for respect for humanitarian law and advocated for aid to reach Gaza. He also expressed concern regarding the situation in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
Likewise, the Holy See’s stance on the two-state solution was reiterated.
The President of Israel, for his part, stated on social media that the issue of the hostages was discussed, as well as the need for ongoing dialogue among the three major religions that coexist in the region.
