In July 2, 2022, a 21-year-old young woman from Costa Rica, who was studying in Florence at the time, suffered serious injuries from a bicycle accident. Everyone thought she wouldn’t survive the incident.

I met this girl—a very sweet girl who clearly had barely begun to live—and especially her mother, because the girl was in a coma. Well, she fell. It was a desperate situation, the accident happened at night while riding her bike. She fell into a coma, and according to the doctors, there was no hope of her waking up, and even if she did, she would be left with several disabilities.

The doctors practically declared her dead or expected her to be left with severe injuries. Her mother flew from Costa Rica to see her daughter, who was in critical condition in the hospital, in a coma. Then she remembered that her daughter and a friend had made to visit Carlo Acutis in Assisi.
Her mother didn’t hesitate to make the journey from Florence to Assisi. Six days after the accident, on July 8, she arrived at Carlo Acutis’s tomb. She began to pray, and this is what happened:

She came to pray at Carlo here in Assisi because she had no other option—among other things, it was her only daughter and she had no other hope. She came with great faith, spent the whole morning on her knees before Carlo’s tomb, and she received this miracle.

So much so that, just days later, her daughter began to breathe on her own. She started to speak—she could speak again. And today, she’s a recent graduate with honors from the University of Florence in Fashion. She had outstanding grades. She’s a normal, beautiful, loving young woman with a bright future ahead.
This is the story of a mother who got her daughter back through prayer and a miracle from Carlo Acutis. This intercession of the now-blessed became the final step for Carlo to reach the altars, making him the first millennial saint.
