The Augustinians have already appointed their new Prior General following the recent opening of the 188th General Chapter of the Order of Saint Augustine.

American-born Father Joseph Lawrence Farrell has been chosen as the 98th successor to Saint Augustine.

Born in Pennsylvania, the new Prior has an extensive background as a chaplain, university professor, formator, and holds doctorate in theology. Since 2013, he has served as the Order's Vicar General. He also knows Pope Leo XIV well:

FATHER JOSEPH FARRELL
Prior, Augustinian Order
My experience with him is that he is a man who listens. He understands the importance of listening first, then reflecting, and only then acting. So first he says: we must listen; what's going on? Listen, think, and then act. I believe that will also guide his pontificate.

With his election, the Augustinians begin a new chapter in their history. Joseph Farrell now steps into the role of leading the Order in the spirit of Saint Augustine, aligned with the major challenges facing both the Church and the world today.
