The Vatican will promote the hiring of people with disabilities. These are the new regulations approved by Pope Leo XIV. They will apply to jobs both within the Holy See and the Vatican City State.

The pontiff made it official through a rescript, which is a papal decision issued in response to a request. This was also signed by Cardinal Parolin. The article states the following:

The employment of people with disabilities is to be promoted in a spirit of inclusion and, when necessary, through the adoption of appropriate and specific measures, given that a disability does not prevent suitability for work in the entities covered by these regulations.

This new measure is included in the Curia’s regulations related to hiring and staff appointments. Furthermore, the rule takes effect immediately.

In recent months, several changes have been made regarding labor laws in the Vatican. For example, in August, three days of paid leave were approved for parents of a child with a disability.
