Immediately after the Mass for the Jubilee of Catechists, Pope Leo XIV led the Angelus. In his remarks, he focused on praying for all those who had just received this ministry.

Together with you, I want to extend a warm greeting and my best wishes for good service to catechists, both men and women, throughout the Church around the world. Thank you for your service to the Church. Let us pray for them, especially for those who work in very difficult conditions. God bless you all.
In addition to praying for them, he also took the opportunity to remember the people of Asia who are suffering because of the powerful typhoon that struck countries such as the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Vietnam.

I feel close to the affected communities, especially the poorest, and I pray for the victims, the missing, the many displaced families, the countless people who have endured hardship. I also pray for those involved in relief efforts and for the civil authorities. I invite everyone to trust in God and to show solidarity. May the Lord give them strength and courage to overcome this adversity.
As a final note, the Pope made an announcement that brought joy to many listening in St. Peter’s Square: St. John Henry Newman now has a date for becoming a Doctor of the Church.

I am pleased to announce that on November 1, during the Jubilee of the World of Education, I will confer the title of Doctor of the Church on Saint John Henry Newman, who played a decisive role in the renewal of theology and in deepening the understanding of Christian doctrine as it developed.
The day concluded at the Vatican with hundreds of faithful gathered around the Pope, praying for the new catechists and celebrating the announcement of the Church’s newest Doctor.
