The Pope speaks about how the resurrection of Jesus can heal the sadness we often feel. Drawing from the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, he reminds us that our hearts are filled with hope and joy.
SUMMARY OF THE WEEKLY PUBLIC CATECHESIS IN SPANISH
Dear brothers and sisters,
In today’s catechesis, we continue reflecting on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This central event of our faith can heal one of the ailments of our time: sadness. This is a feeling of sorrow and emptiness that causes us to lose meaning and strength in life, leading our hearts into desolation and despair.
An example of how Jesus heals our sadness can be found in the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus. After Jesus’ death, they leave Jerusalem. On the way, the Lord meets them, listens to their sorrow, and, since their sadness keeps them from recognizing Him, He explains the Scriptures to help them understand the mystery of the Cross and to open their hearts to hope. That is why, even though night is falling, the disciples ask Him to stay with them, and upon recognizing Him in the breaking of the bread, joy is reborn. Jesus has risen—and that changes everything. He has saved us and continues to save us, bringing new hope into our lives. I warmly greet all Spanish-speaking pilgrims. Let us ask the Lord to help us recognize His presence on the journey of our lives, especially in moments of sadness and darkness, and may the joy of Easter be the hallmark of our missionary commitment.
God bless you. Thank you very much.
