What once seemed like a threat has come to stay. Artificial Intelligence has become a challenge of our time, one that the Church has also turned its attention to, beginning with Pope Leo XIV himself.
POPE LEO XIV
We must not forget that artificial intelligence functions as a tool for the good of human beings, not to diminish them, not to replace them. What is emerging is, in fact, an important challenge that requires great attention and foresight in order to shape, even in the context of new scenarios, healthy, just, and wholesome lifestyles, especially for the good of younger generations.
Catholic schools have taken decisive step forward: integrating AI into education, guided by ethical and humanistic principles
JUAN ANTONIO OJEDA
Director of Educational Projects (OIEC)
The great challenge is to use it properly. If used properly, teachers, for example, can gain time, time they can invest in accompanying, guiding, and attending to students’ needs. Many times, the teacher’s bureaucratic load distances them from these realities. AI allows them to know more, to have more data to better adapt the teaching and learning process; it allows them to guide students. All of this within parameters of ethics, justice, and solidarity.
To make this a reality, the International Office of Catholic Education, in partnership with other organizations, has launched Catholic Education 5.0.
This international project provides Catholic schools that wish to participate with cutting-edge educational tools, selected for their pedagogical value, real impact, and consistency with Christian values.
HERVÉ LECOMTE
Secretary General (OIEC)
It is not only about working on Artificial Intelligence itself, but about the evolution that this evolution brings. It is about talking about where we are, talking about Antiqua et Nova, Dilexit Nos, about the developments mentioned by UNESCO, and about how we can help teachers and students.
With 210,000 schools and 68 million students around the world, the OIEC network has the scale needed to turn this project into both a pedagogical and human opportunity, putting AI at the service of every student.
